8:30-9:00 am: Welcome and CIMA announcements

9:00-10:00 am: Panel Discussion: Archives in the University Classroom

A panel of BYU faculty in varied (and surprising!) disciplines reveal how and why they integrate the use of Special Collections materials into their teaching and assignments. 10:00-10:15 am: Break

10:15-11:15 am: Panel Discussion: Instruction and Public Services in State and Religious Archives

We frequently talk about instruction in academic library special collections but often state, municipal, and religious archives are left out of the discussion. Learn more about how instruction is integrated into the public service work at the Utah State Archives, Salt Lake County Archives, and LDS Church History Library. Featuring: Jim Kichas (Utah State Archives); Karri Krattley (Salt Lake County Archives); and Jay Burrup (LDS Church History Library) with Dan Davis (Utah State University) as moderator.

11:15-1:00 pm: Lunch from Magleby’s Fresh (Provided)

1:00-2:00 pm: Panel Discussion on Born Digital and Web Archiving at BYU

Three BYU Special Collections staff discuss their recent work with born digital records and web archiving.

  • Dainan Skeem will provide an overview of the open-source BitCurator platform and some of the challenges faced in trying to implement it, including digital preservation.
  • Cory Nimer will discuss how things were set up and how students have been trained, including problems of establishing a workflow.
  • Trevor Alvord will explore the different approaches to appraisal and collection development for web archives that BYU has utilized during its last three year implementation of their web archive.

2:00-3:00 pm: Break up into “best practices” groups with Dainan, Cory, and Trevor

Ask questions and learn more about the work being done by Dainan, Cory, and Trevor by breaking into small groups–follow your interests to learn more from the presenter of your choice.

3:00 pm: Conclusion of Fall Caucus
