Job Opportunity–Salt Lake City, Utah

The J. Willard Marriott Library seeks a Project Archivist to participate in a two-year grant effort funded by the Doris Duke Charitable Foundation. This staff position will guide the day-to-day work of the initiative, which aims to preserve and provide access to oral histories conducted with individuals from the state’s Native American communities. This remarkable resource, which was developed with the support of Doris Duke from 1969-1974, is among the most-valued and used collections held in Marriott Library’s Special Collections. The current project will involve working with these communities to identify culturally sensitive information and to provide additional contextual understanding of the interviews.

We seek qualified applicants who also bring perspectives and experiences that will enrich and strengthen our organization. We especially invite applications from candidates who may not have followed a traditional educational or professional path. All candidates should be prepared to discuss how they see themselves contributing to the University’s equity, diversity, and inclusion efforts. The library serves an increasingly diverse constituency of patrons, and our employees, services, collections, and policies should honor and reflect this diversity. We are therefore interested in identifying and interviewing candidates who have experience with underserved or marginalized communities and communities of color and who are committed to advancing our mission to provide equitable access to information resources.

This is a term-limited position, with an expected effort of 40 hours per week and an expected end date of December 2022. The exact end date will depend on several factors including the exact starting date and the continued availability of project funding.

This position is considered Category IIA: Not required on campus, and has the ability to telework remotely for the duration of the University of Utah’s response to COVID-19.
