We are happy to announce the 2013 CIMA Awards will be presented at the joint meeting with the Society of Rocky Mountain Archivists in Salt Lake City, Utah on May 23-25, 2013. Two awards will be presented at that time: CIMA Life-Time Achievement Award and the CIMA Service Award.
The prestigious CIMA Life-Time Achievement Award acknowledges and demonstrates appreciation for a life of service and leadership in the archival profession, by the peers and colleagues of the recipient. Last year’s recipient was Alan Virta, retired head of Special Collections at Boise State University’s Albertson Library. The CIMA Service Award is given to an individual who has made significant contributions to the CIMA organization, or to the archival profession in general in recent years. The award is given in appreciation for their service and leadership, by the peers and colleagues of the recipient, but to a reception who may not yet quality for the CIMA Life-Time Achievement Award. Last year’s recipient was Elizabeth Perkes, Electronic Records Archivist at the Utah State Archives.
Both awards are given one-time annually, during CIMA’s annual meeting. Recipients do not have to be CIMA members. To nominate someone for either award, please send us their name, along with a letter explaining why you think the person merits recognition by their peers. The deadline for submitting nominations is March 15, 2013.
The CIMA Awards Committee will meet in mid-March 2013 to determine its recommendations for the names of the award recipients. The committee’s recommendations will be submitted for final approval to the CIMA Council and Officers. The names of this year’s award recipients will be announced in April in advance of the spring conference.
