Archives Assistant

Primary Duties:
Assist researchers in the reading room; respond to public inquiries concerning Archives collections via telephone, email, and in person; conduct limited research in collections and compose replies; retrieve and re-shelve materials.

Additional Duties:
Process records collections including re housing historical records and arrangement and description of records under the direction of the Archives Program Manager.

Minimum Qualifications:
• Working knowledge of Microsoft software programs including Access, Word, and Excel.
• Excellent writing skills.
• Excellent communication skills, including telephone skills.
• Must be able to stoop, bend, reach, crouch, climb ladders, and lift up to 40 pounds to retrieve and refile records.
• Ability to take directions and also to work independently.

Preferred Qualifications:
• Previous experience in archives, library science, or history fields and/or a graduate degree in one of these areas desirable.
• Excellent research skills.
• Previous experience providing reference services in a library or archives.

This job is a temporary position funded for 20 hours a week. Salary is $14.00/hour. Work site is the Salt Lake County Archives building, 4505 South 5600 West, West Valley City, Utah. Deadline for Applications: Open until filled.
