Journal of Western Archives Coming in 2010

After much discussion, plans are in place to launch the new Journal of Western Archives in 2010. This new peer-reviewed publication will be an open access electronic journal, and it will be co-sponsored by the Conference of Inter-Mountain Archivists. The Journal will be hosted by Utah State University, and it will have a continuous publication schedule with two issues annually.
A call for papers will be announced during the lead up to the 2010 Western Round-Up in April. The first issue is planned for July 1st, 2010.

For CIMA members, there will be ample opportunity to volunteer and help bring this publication to life. As a sponsoring organization, CIMA will need 5 to 6 peer reviewers available, to participate in the adjudication of papers.

CIMA will also be naming a representative to the Journal’s Editorial Board. Responsibilities for this position will include:

  • Reviewing articles and submitting them to peer reviewers.
  • Working with participants to ensure that all deadlines are met.
  • Soliciting content for the journal.
  • Helping to market the journal to members of CIMA and the region.
  • Attending all board meetings, and giving regular updates to the CIMA Council.

The CIMA Council will be meeting December 9th, 2009. At that time, the CIMA Council will be naming the persons who will serve as our Peer Reviewers and our Editorial Board Member. The Journal’s Editorial Board is expected to hold their first meeting sometime in mid-January.

If you would like to volunteer for either of these positions, please contact CIMA’s President immediately.
